My drawing done in 1961 at age 15. I had been so impressed by the Alfa Romeo Speciale raced at Grand Central Circuit in 1960, that I had to try and draw one, never thinking I'd own one 19 years later!
Blue Speciale, drawn in 1989
1928 Talbot 1.5-litre GP car, drawn in 1993
1933 Maserati 8CM3000, drawn in 1995
Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale, drawn in 1982, while into the
second year of the 6-year restoration of my red 1961 car.
As with many
of Frank Lloyd Wright's houses, I am always impressed by the beauty of
designer Franco Scaglione's Alfa Romeo Speciale. What so impresses me about Wright's houses is the sense of spatial and formal excitement coupled with the harmonious setting on their sites. With Scaglione's Speciale and his other car designs, it is the sense of fluid, forward motion and speed, with the integrated harmony of the rounded, aero-effective forms.
